STOCKHOLM - SMALL TOWN, BIG CITY
Stockholm is a city on fourteen islands set amidst sparkling water – a green oasis of mediaeval and modern architecture, waiting to be discovered.
Internationally recognised for first-rate research, creativity and design, Stockholm provides all the comforts of a big city but with the cosiness of a small town. It’s conference facilities, hotels, cultural attractions, shops and restaurants are all within a 10-20 minute walk and a stroll through the narrow, cobble-stoned streets of the Old Town instantly transport you back to the time of knights and fair ladies.
Every year, on 10 December, the King of Sweden awards the prestigious Nobel Prizes. On that day, the eyes of the world are on Stockholm and the maginificent Nobel Banqueting Hall. We are therefore delighted to announce that the 2006 EACTS Presidential Dinner will be held within this prestigious venue.
The Stockholm International Fairs convention complex offers the latest modern and flexible facilities and advanced technology. Stockholm also boasts some 41,000 hotel beds and, via our local accommodation agency, StoCon, you will have the opportunity to choose from one of the numerous conference hotels situated in and around the city centre.
Stockholm is blessed with excellent transportation links. From Arlanda International Airport which offers flight connections from all over the world, the city centre can be reached within 20 minutes and the is served by a reliable network of underground, taxi, tram and ferry services.
Sweden is reputed to be one of the most well-organised and progressive societies in the world and Stockholm is synonymous with quality. We are therefore delighted to have selected the City to host the 5TH EACTS/ESTS Joint Meeting and look forward to welcoming you all from 9-13 September 2006.
